Interior Design: Our Process To Create The Perfect Home For You
Our goal is to make a home that works for you and your family, that flows, and that has a style sense that fits your personality. I have found over the years that the best way to accomplish this is by implementing our well-honed process. I am going to get to know you, and learn about your needs and your tastes, and then design and select all the furnishings, lighting, rugs, accessories, wall coverings, and everything we need to make your home a reflection of you and your family.
STEP 1: INITIAL INTAKE MEETING
We will be discussing your taste, your needs, as well as your family and pets, and lifestyle. If you have photos, samples, pinterest boards etc, now is the time to bring them, but please keep in mind that you hire us to create a unique home, not one you found on Instagram. At this point we are also discussing a preliminary budget, as well as our fee.
STEP 2: PLANNING AND DESIGNING PHASE
Traffic flow, furniture sizes, walls, windows and fireplaces, what fits and what makes sense. Are we creating an open concept? Adding on? Completely reorganizing your floor plan? Do I want the kitchen on the north or south side of my house? A sectional or a chaise? How about wall paper? Paint colors? Art? Lighting? Bathrooms and tile? A freestanding tub? Bigger fireplace? What should my stair rail look like? And how many people can I fit in my dining room? Soooo many ideas and so much excitement.
In phase 1, we design floor plans, elevations, and all the drawings and vision boards you need to see what your home is going to look like when you flop on the sofa or cook with friends. During this period, we select everything that is going into your home, and we draw alllll those items into our plans to make sure the flow is perfect for you. In addition to designing the rooms themselves (do we take that wall out or just open it slightly), we are also finding the furniture that’s perfect for you and selecting lighting, built-ins, tile, bathroom designs, window treatments, and art, flooring, kitchen cabinetry, and counters, staircases, hardware…well, everything! We will even spec your outdoor furniture.
STEP 3: PRESENTATION
The first of many big days is here! During your presentation, we will show you plans, vision boards, samples, and everything you need to envision your new home, and we provide pinpointed budgets. Then you say, “go,” and we start ordering everything that goes in your home. It’s a super exciting time as you get to see everything we have created with you in mind.
STEP 4: ORDERING, CONTRACTORS, AND INSTALL TIME!!
It’s like your favorite holiday on steroids. If construction is involved, the building starts now. We will be here to hold your hand and watch to make sure it’s going as planned. We are ordering everything ahead of time so it is ready for your job: everything from plumbing fixtures and tile to rugs, sofas, and window treatments, is ordered and staged to arrive when needed. We are checking in and communicating with everyone involved to ensure it’s going according to plan. When the paint is on the walls, your furniture, accessories, art, rugs, and more are brought in, and you have a home! If all you want to do is bring your toothbrush, we can even get that.
STEP 5: PHOTOS AND A PARTY
Our clients get really excited to watch their project be installed and photographed. Once we are all done, you get to enjoy your home and have a party!
PROJECT SCOPE
Our projects range from:
designing several rooms of interiors with or without construction
Interior design for remodels and additions
Interior design of new build construction
We design, specify, and order furniture, lighting, staircases, millwork and moldings, fireplaces, tile, wallpaper, rugs, flooring, art, accessories, bathrooms (all plumbing fixtures, tile, lighting, glass enclosures,etc)...basically everything that goes in your home. Oh…and Outdoor furniture too.
We follow your project from the very beginning until it is time to bring your toothbrush and settle in. We work with your contractor or ones we recommend, and architects as well.
Experience tells us that it is best to involve us from the very beginning, as soon as you know you want to start. We can even accompany you if you are in the midst of a home search, if you want input while making a decision on your upcoming home purchase.
